Who you are contracting with
These terms are between you and Easy Edit PDF, the operator of this service. By using it you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
Who can use it
You must be at least 16 years old. If you use the service for an organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
The service, and what it costs
You can upload and edit a PDF without an account, free. To export the edited file you need a free account with a verified email address, which includes 3 exports a month. Files must be smaller than 5 MiB on the free plan and without an account, and smaller than 25 MiB on a paid plan, and at most 100 pages. We may change these limits, and will tell account holders before reducing them.
The service also includes standalone PDF tools, such as adding a watermark, that run in your browser. They are free, need no account, and process your file on your own device: it is not uploaded to us, and we keep nothing of it. Their limits are shown on each tool's page.
Paid plans are optional. A plan's price, billing period and limits are shown on the pricing page and again at checkout before you pay, and you are charged only if you choose one. The refund policy applies to every payment.
- Prices are in US dollars and do not include tax. Sales tax, VAT or GST, where it applies, is worked out from your location and added at checkout, which shows the total before you pay. Checkout may offer your local currency instead, converted from the US-dollar price; the amount it shows is the amount you are charged.
- Paid plans are sold through Link, a service of Stripe, which acts as the seller of record for the payment: it takes the payment, collects and pays the tax, and sends your receipts and invoices. Link's terms, linked at checkout, apply to the payment; these terms apply to the service. The charge appears on your statement with the prefix
LINK.COM*. - Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each month until you cancel. We will tell you before a price change applies to a renewal. You can cancel at any time from your account; the plan stays until the end of the period you have paid for and does not renew. If a renewal payment fails, the plan continues while the payment is retried, and ends if it cannot be collected.
- The 7-day Pro pass is a single payment and does not renew. It gives your account Pro for seven days from when the payment is confirmed. Bought while a pass is running, it adds seven days to the end of that one. Deleting your account ends a running pass; whether its payment is refunded is set by the refund policy. A pass does nothing for an account whose plan already includes Pro, which is why one cannot be bought then.
- When a paid plan or a pass ends, your account returns to the free plan and its limits and retention period apply from then, so download anything you need to keep.
Your documents remain yours
You keep all rights in the files you upload. You give us only the permission needed to run the service: to store your file, analyse it, apply your edits and produce an exported PDF for you. That permission ends when the file is deleted.
You confirm that you have the right to upload and edit the files you send us.
What the service does and does not do
- Editing removes the old text where the exporter can prove which instructions drew it, and draws over it where it cannot. The exported file may still contain the original text, and removal never reaches other copies of the same words, the metadata, an attachment, or an earlier revision saved inside the file. This service must not be used to remove confidential information.
- PDF is a page-drawing format, so no editor can guarantee a perfect result on every file.
- Scanned documents cannot be edited, and we do not perform OCR.
- Editing a digitally signed PDF, or adding a watermark to it or merging it with others, permanently invalidates that signature in the new file.
- A watermark is a visible label. It can be removed or cropped off, and it does not stop anyone copying the document.
- Fonts may be substituted where the original font is unavailable or incomplete.
- If you give us the password to a password-protected PDF, we keep an unlocked copy of it for as long as we keep the document. The security page explains why.
Accounts
Give us an email address you can receive mail at, and keep your password safe. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
Acceptable use
The acceptable use policy forms part of these terms. In short: nothing illegal, no forged documents, and no attempts to overwhelm or circumvent the service.
Your responsibility for backups
We keep your files for the retention period set out in the privacy policy and delete them afterwards. This is not a backup service. Keep your own copy of anything important.
Ending the service
You can stop using the service at any time, and delete your account from its settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, as the acceptable use policy describes. If we decide to stop offering the service altogether, we will give account holders at least 30 days' notice by email, so you have time to download your files.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep the service available but do not promise it will be uninterrupted. We may change or remove features, and will give reasonable notice of a change that significantly disadvantages you.
Our software and your feedback
The service, its software and its name belong to us or our licensors, and these terms give you the right to use the service, not ownership of it. Open-source components are used under their own licences. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Warranties and liability
The service is provided as it is and as available. Except where the law does not allow us to exclude them, we make no promises that it will be free of errors, that an export will look exactly like the original, or that it suits a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for losing a file you could have kept a copy of, and our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim and 100 Canadian dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute goes to the courts of British Columbia, and you and we both agree to bring one there.
If you use the service as a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the consumer law where you live. Where that law gives you a right you cannot sign away, or lets you bring a claim in your local courts, these terms do not change it.
Before starting a formal claim, write to [email protected]. Most problems are faster to fix that way, and we would rather fix them.
Changes to these terms
The version and effective date are at the top of this page. If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you before the change takes effect — by email if you have an account. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply; if you do not accept them, you can delete your account.
