This page lists every cookie this site sets, and the other things it keeps in your browser, such as local storage. Nothing is stored for advertising. Page-load timings are measured without storing anything: see the privacy policy.
Needed for the service to work
These are set without asking, because the service cannot work without them. None is used for analytics or advertising.
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
pdfed_session | Cookie. Keeps you signed in. JavaScript cannot read it. | Up to 30 days; it stops working after 14 days without use, or when you sign out. |
pdfed_anon | Cookie. Set when you upload without an account, so the file is still yours after a reload. It holds a random value with no meaning outside our servers. | One day. |
pdfed_oauth_state | Cookie. Set only while you sign in with Google, to check that the reply really belongs to the sign-in you started. | Ten minutes, and removed when sign-in completes. |
pdfed.consent.v1 | Local storage. Remembers your answer to the cookie banner, the version of this policy you answered, and when. | Until you withdraw your choice or clear your browser's data. |
__cf_bm, cf_clearance | Cookies, set by Cloudflare, which carries all traffic to this site. It may set them to tell people from automated traffic, or to remember that your browser passed a security check. | 30 minutes, at Cloudflare's default settings. |
easyeditpdf-tool-handoff | IndexedDB, with a local-storage marker of the same name. Set only when you choose a file on one of our in-browser PDF tools' introduction pages: it holds that file, inside your browser, while the tool's page opens. It is never sent to us. | Removed as soon as the tool reads the file. If the tool never opens, it is removed the next time you open any page of this site more than ten minutes later; if you do not come back, it stays until you clear your browser's data. |
easyeditpdf-tool-working | Session storage. Set while an in-browser tool is working on a file, so that if the tab is closed by the browser for lack of memory, the tool can say so when you return. It holds only the tool's name. | Until the work finishes or you close the tab. |
Remembering your preferences
These stay in your browser and are never sent to us. They are not cookies, and they are set only when you use the feature they belong to.
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
pdfed.documents.view, pdfed.documents.sort | Local storage. How you like your documents list laid out and sorted. | Until you clear your browser's data. |
pdfed:after-signin, pdfed:resume-export | Session storage. Returns you to the page you were on after you sign in, and resumes an export you asked for before signing in. | Until you close the tab, and removed once used. |
Optional: analytics
Set only if you accept analytics in the cookie banner, and only on our public marketing pages — never on the editor, your documents, the pages where the in-browser tools work on your file, sign-in or these legal pages. Refusing has no effect on anything you can do here.
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Cookies, set by Google Analytics. Tell repeat visits apart, so we can see where visitors come from and which public pages they read. | Two years. |
ph_*_posthog | A cookie and a local storage entry, set by PostHog. A random identifier, so we can see how visitors move through the public pages. Automatic capture of what you click and screen recording are both switched off. | One year. |
ph_*_window_id, ph_*_primary_window_exists, ph_*_session_registered_properties | Session storage, set by PostHog. Tells one browser tab's visit from another's. | Until you close the tab. |
__ph_opt_in_out_* | Local storage, set by PostHog when you refuse or withdraw analytics on a page where it was running. It records the refusal, so PostHog sends nothing more from that page. | Until you next open one of our public pages without having accepted analytics, or accept again. |
Optional: advertising
No advertising runs on this site today, and no advertising cookie is set. The banner asks about advertising separately from analytics so that, if we ever show ads on our public marketing pages, nothing loads unless you have said yes — and ads would never appear on the editor, your documents, pricing or these legal pages. We will update this page, naming the provider and its cookies, before any ad is shown.
Not controlled by the banner
The application reports a fixed list of product events, such as an export completing, to our own server, which forwards them to PostHog. This sets no cookie and loads no third-party code in your browser, so the banner does not control it. The privacy policy describes exactly what those events contain and how to object to them.
Our staff administration site signs in with its own cookie on a separate domain. It is never set on this site.
The banner, and changing your mind
The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics and advertising. Reject all and Accept all are the same kind of button, side by side, and Choose lets you answer each separately. Until you answer, nothing optional loads: ignoring the banner counts as no.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from Cookie settings at the bottom of our public pages, including this one. Refusing or withdrawing analytics deletes the Google Analytics and PostHog cookies and storage listed above, on whichever page you do it. If the tools are running on that page, Google Analytics is also told to store nothing more and PostHog is switched off; after the next full page load neither is loaded at all.
When this policy changes, the banner asks again. An answer given to an earlier version counts as no answer, so nothing optional loads until you respond to the current one.
Your answer, the version of this policy you responded to, and when, are stored in your browser only. We do not receive them, so if you clear your browser's data or use another device, you will be asked again.
Your browser's controls
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. Blocking the cookies needed for the service will stop sign-in and anonymous uploads from working.
