How it works
Three steps, in your browser

- 2
Use whichever tool the job needs
Double-click text to retype it, or pick Sign, Text, Image, Highlight, Draw, Shapes or Note from the rail. Mix them freely.
- 3
Export a new file
Sign in for free to download the result. Your edits stay with the document, so you can change them and export again.
Everything in one editor

Retype a date, a figure or a name in place, in the document’s own font where the file allows. Editing PDF text.
Know what will change before you type
Every block of text is graded from Good to Unsupported first, so you know which edits will be clean. What the marks mean.
Sign
Draw your signature and place it on the line. Signing a PDF.
Add text and images
Type anywhere on the page, or place a PNG or JPEG. Adding text · Adding images.
Highlight, draw, add shapes and notes
Mark up the page with tools drawn into the file you download. Annotating a PDF.
What “editing” means here
A PDF stores drawing instructions, not a document that reflows, so editing one is not like editing a word-processor file. This editor analyses your file first and tells you which blocks it can change reliably, which it can only paint over, and which it cannot touch — before you type. Signing, images and markup go on top of the page and work on any file it opens.
Where it works well
- Contracts, invoices and letters produced by Word, LaTeX or a print driver
- Correcting a name, a date, an address or a figure
- Signing, dating and marking up a document before sending it back
Where it does not
- PDFs must be smaller than 5 MiB (25 MiB on Pro) and at most 100 pages.
- Scanned PDFs cannot be edited. You can still view and download them.
- A password-protected PDF needs its password. We use it once to unlock the file and keep the unlocked copy, so it is no longer password-protected here.
- Editing a digitally signed PDF invalidates the signature.
- Editing removes the old text where it can prove which instructions drew it and paints over it where it cannot, so the exported file may still contain the old words. This is not redaction.
Common questions
Before you start
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in a computer’s browser, and you can start editing without an account. Downloading needs a free account, which includes 3 exports a month; Pro has unlimited exports within fair use. Plans and pricing.
Does it work on a phone?
Editing needs a computer’s browser. On a phone you can upload a PDF and download it again, and if you sign in there, the file stays in your account to open on a computer.
Which PDFs work best?
Text-based files produced by Word, LaTeX or a print driver. A scanned PDF is a picture of a page and can be viewed and downloaded, but not edited — we don’t read text out of images (OCR). Telling the two kinds apart.
How long are my files kept?
Kept for one day without an account and 7 days on a free account, unless you delete them sooner. They are stored privately and never used for advertising or model training. Privacy policy.
